Cambridge - October 2005

Bristi came to visit and we had a good long walk around Cambridge, attempting two Geocaches without much competence.

Elizabeth Way bridge in Cambridge. When I last was here a few years earlier, it was a normal concrete bridge, but it appears to have a building put inside it. The once plain concrete walls have windows in them.

The River heading North East towards the Fens. The Chimney in the distance is the Cambridge Museum of Technology.

Bristi by the bridge.

Rowers pass the recently rebuilt footbridge.

Visiting narrowboats on the public bank and the rowing clubs on the private side of the river.

Reflections outside the Fort St George pub.

Another rowing club.

Another reflection.

The lock at Jesus Green Weir. Sim was terrified of this weir when he lived in Cambridge as a small child. The lock is locked and marks the separation between the punting within the city centre and the real boating towards the Great River Ouse.

Strangers are welcome to take shelter - but the huge padlock is surely a small inconvenience? Presumably the lock is a mistake and bolt croppers are welcomed?

The backstreets.

The view from the tower of Great St Mary's Church in the centre of Cambridge.

King's College from above. Don't be fooled by the scale, that horse chestnut tree is huge!

The market from above.

Punters at the mill pond.

The River Cam on the South West side of the city was very calm.

We spent a lot of time in this atmospheric graveyard looking for a Geocache. Our coordinates were totally erroneous and we shouldn't have been here at all.
