Great Yarmouth - August 2001
Great Yarmouth is much nicer than I'd imagined.
A little cold and bleak- as all East coastal towns, I came from Grimsby,) but it has a nice atmosphere, a pleasant and all the seaside things that are needed, (amusements, poor fish and chip shops, etc.) . The pier is not excellent and the train service wasn't good - slow and the station closed all its buildings at 1700 and chucked the passengers out into the cold - amazing for a station of that size! The train service may have improved since - the Norwich to Cambridge portion of the journey is certainly much more frequent and comfortable now than it was in 2001.
The actual train journey from Norwich to Great Yarmouth is very pleasant - as long as you're not in a rush. Not many pictures after all that waffle- sorry!
Let's get one thing straight from the start - The crazy golf course in Great Yarmouth is one of the best in the country. The course is long, interesting, well laid out and even ensures that you pass a hatch in the payment shed half-way through - to allow refreshments to be purchased. Each hole has a sensible par. Crazy golf as it should be.

According to this expert, it's now adventure golf at Great Yarmouth, not crazy golf!
He has a picture of the present course too - again it's a bit slow
This roof doesn't look fragile to me. It's become a kind of tradition in British seaside towns to provide a sinister dark area of derelict beach huts at one extreme of the bay.
Can you have too many menu boards outside your sea view restaurant?
Not in Great Yarmouth - this was typical of about 7 or 8 such examples.
All very stationary at the station.
It's nice, but it could do with some trains, buildings open after 1700 and some people
Plenty of road traffic - so why are the station buildings already shut for the day and only trains every few hours?
