Mullard Radio Telescopes - Feb 2005

A long walk took me past some of the impressive radio telescopes of  the  Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory near Haslingfield. The landscape of South Cambridgeshire is not remarkable, so the telescopes make a welcome landmark.

The telescopes make an impressive contrast to the surrounding farmland. The Ryle Telescope consists of a number of movable dishes mounted on a track laid on the bed of the disused Cambridge-Bedford railway. The track bed conveniently lies East-West at this point. There is lots of  info on the official website.

I believe these are the Cambridge Low-Frequency Synthesis Telescopes. They are aligned East-West on the line of the old railway line.
